My TEFL job fell through and now I am homeless. What do I do?
I was booked to go to South Korea for a year starting in mid august. I had arranged a replacement tenant for my room in my house, very nearly quit my job and promised my friends they could loan my stuff for a couple of years whilst I was away, Now, the company who I was going through (naming no names) have pulled the carpet from underneath me and now I am homeless and have no idea what to do. I want to go travelling and teaching was a good opportunity for me to make money and do a bit of travelling at the same time. I still want to go abroad with my girlfriend and work and save money to go proper backpacking afterwards. I also want to be a teacher when I return home so that experience would have been invaluable for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i could do next please? I have looked at other companies doing the same TEFL stuff but have no idea which are reputable and I do not to limit myself to just teaching. If anyone has done something similar and had a good time could you let me know please??? Thanks a lot

I taught abroad in two countries and loved it. I found the jobs I had by networking - a friend of a friend knew of the school or had taught there, etc. I applied directly to the schools and didn't work with recruiters. I actually had offers to teach at several others that I'm sure I would have also loved. If you are friends with internationals in the US, ask them for recommendations. (If you are not, make some friends - it will help you understand the culture better). Teaching is normally the easiest job to find overseas. Once you are there, you might find some offers for acting/working on curriculum, but you'll need to get there first and you'll also have the issue of getting a visa.

Let me get this straight. You would rather see jobs go to Rio than the Mid-West region of our own country. Wow, this is very typical of the conservative right in this country. Now you guys want to outsource the Olympic jobs that would help recover our nations economy and get people back to work. Way to go with that patriotism (to Brazil that is). BTW, name one Obama 'cronie' in Chicago that would profit off this. Considering the fact that Utah turned a 56 million dollar profit after everything was paid for from the 2002 Winter Olympics, I think Obama's lobbying efforts in Denmark are to be applauded. This would be a huge boom to the area, not just Chicago but surrounding states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa and Indiana as well. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4191/is_20020425/ai_n10002200/

Chicago was awarded the Olympics in 1904, but that year the St. Louis leaders who put together the World Fair in their city convinced the U.S. and International Olympic Committees to move the event to St. Louis. That was 100 years ago. A major study done by a California university revealed that a Chicago Olympics would provide a minimum of $44 billion of investment and economic recovery to one of America's most depressed cities, badly in need of private development. In addition, the entire Great lakes region would benefit with billions of dollars worth of increased tourism and related growth. It makes no economic sense not to pursue this goal of a Chicago Olympics and opponents would be labelling the president as derelict in his duties if he ignored it. Some of your information is incorrect, and if you read the Murdoch owned Post or saw the Murdoch-owned Fox News for Malkin's reports on the subject, she only states that Jarret served on the committee to seek Chicago's Olympic bid, which is not a lobbying firm, she was employed by the city of Chicago - big difference. Alexrod's public relations firm AKPD did some preliminary work for the committee's efforts, being the largest Chicago PR firm, which makes sense. This was before Obama even announced running for the presidency. However, there is no current or future contract for AKPD or anyone else, and any future Olympics PR contract, should Chicago be named, would be awarded by the International Olympic Committee, not the city of Chicago. If you must rant, at least get your facts straight. You lose all credibility and people will just ignore your future posts, like I plan on doing if you can't be more careful with facts in the future.

Libby... Should I join the military?
Should I join the military?
My goals: make money, rank up ( more money ), get educated (future money), and Don't die or get injured. I currently have a diploma from one of the best high schools in the US but I barely graduated. I just wasn't motivated at the time but right now I am. I'm 19 1/2 years old and I'm going nowhere fast, I have no debt and I've saved 7k dollars.. and I live in jacksonville florida, the economy here SUCKS. Its hard to get a job and even when you do its only part time, I currently work at publix. I need guidance I need information, I need to know why the military is going to bring me out of this rut I am in. I'm so stuck because I've lived in this city all my life and I don't know anything else. I'm in great shape though, I'm 160 lbs and I benchpress 240. I'm still not sure whether I should join and which branch I should join. Please give me insight especially if you currently are in the military. I'm thinking Navy AF or Coastgaurd because I don't want to get hurt. But the army was appealing for the bonus( I know people say its nothing but I've got no kids and no debt cash is cash and I know how to keep it) and because I have family in South korea and they said I'd likely be able to get stationed there. I got an 88 on my asvab and I have fantasic vision

"My goals: make money, rank up ( more money ), get educated (future money), and Don't die or get injured." What the hell dude, your goals have nothing to do with the military. make money? the military isn't about money, its ok pay, but not the best, we do it for other reasons. get educated? yes you'll learn life skills, but if you go to college and then grad school, become a surgeon for example, you'll get experience no matter what. dont die or get injured? yea there are other jobs out there in the military that doesnt put you out on the field. BUT your goals above are not the type of goals you need to be a good solider, airman, sailor, or marine
2 :
You have the wrong reasons to join. Just so you know you can die anywhere and anytime. The military can guide you but you still have to get yourself out of your rut. If you weren't motivated in HS how in the hell do you expect to make it in the military. Bonuses are few and far between. South Korea you can go but it is a wish list you may never go at all. I suggest stay civilian and go to college.

My opinion for joining the military you should have more goals then just makeing money and getting educated yea you can get all that in the military thats no lie even though the pay isn't the best in the world but you get your basic needs taken care of like housing get discounts on things get free medical and other things like that but if you you look this way the getting hurt and and killed that can happen any time of the day not trying to make you think that it will happen but it can if you think that it will only happen in the military your wrong yea it happens but it doesn't only happen in the military if you know what I meanthe economy is bad everywhere it may be worse in other areas but everybody that don't got a job now is haveing trouble trying to get a job and if they do it is something like a minmum wage job the military can make you or break you it just depends on what you want to do as a job and what your interests are so you can pick which branch you want go with but the only person that can decide that is you you are saying that you are in great shape just because you say that you are 160 and can bench 240 but benching won't help you out in the long run when in boot camp because you have to beable to run alot do alot of push ups and sit ups so that don't really mean nothing like for example if you want to go into the Marines you have to pass the ipft which is the initial phsyical fitness test and it consists of 1.5 mile run in 13mins or less 50 sit ups or more in 2mins 2 pull ups and 50 or more push ups in 2mins but if you can't pass that then you have to go into this other training where all the non phsyically fit people go before boot camp to get fit so they can pass the regular pft which consists of a 3mile run in 18mins or less so if you want more information on the other branches like the Air Force Navy Coast Guard Army Marines or any of their reserves parts then just go to their web site or just call a recruiter and they will give you all information you need hopefully that helped if you need anything else jus email me and ill help all I can

Vanga's predictions about World War 3?
Vanga's predictions about World War 3?
I can't believe it. I found info about Vanga in February and she predicted a lot of disasters. Among them, she said that WW3 will begin in November 2010. I used to think: crap, someone is just trying to make money. She said that it will begin after an attempt to murder several important political people (beginning of November, bombing on several embassies) and after battles in "Hindustan" (area where today is south Asia). There were battles against terrorism in India and Pakistan few weeks ago, and today however, South Korea and North Korea are fighting again, and Russia for some reason is building 5,000 nuclear shelters ( http://socioecohistory.wordpress.com/2010/11/13/why-is-russia-building-5000-new-nuclear-bomb-shelters-in-moscow-by-2012/ ) More about her predictions (some of them are crap, such as the thing where laws of Physics change) http://www.theastralworld.com/prophecies/babavanga.php I'm afraid to be honest, I thought that is just nothing but it is becoming truth.

Hello There is often some truth in things like this at times.

Pay no attention to this nonsense. The future can't be predicted. Apart from the odd lucky random guess, people like Baba Vanga will always be wrong. Usually, their past 'correct' predictions don't stand up to any sort of scrutiny, having been made up or altered after the event they were supposed to predict. Anyway, only a few days to go before this one is proved definitively wrong. Another one bites the dust.

Why is the liar McCain getting a free ride fromt he press?
Why is the liar McCain getting a free ride fromt he press?
Why do they ignore all his bold faced crap? such as.... To hear some of John McCain’s media admirers tell it, “McCain, whether you agree with him or not, has been entirely consistent about the war.†To hear his campaign tell it, “John McCain has mainted [sic] a consistent record on Iraq since the very beginning.†But pesky little details like reality keep getting in the way. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has long supported a 50-year troop presence in Iraq — or the “South Korea model†— set forth by President Bush and Gen. Petraeus. “We have had troops in South Korea for 60 years and nobody minds,†he said in June. On the Charlie Rose Show in August, McCain said the Korea model was “exactly†the right idea. Yesterday on Charlie Rose, McCain changed his position, arguing that the Korea-like presence is not an “analogy†he would use for Iraq. Recognizing the “nature of the society in Iraq,†McCain suggested that Iraqi opposition to a permanent U.S. occupation may make the South Korea model implausible. McCain added that the “nature of the society in Iraq†and the “religious aspects†of the country make it inevitable that the United States “eventually withdraws.†But if you suggest five years of failed policies is long enough, you’re a cut-and-run coward who embraces defeat, loves al Qaeda, and hates our troops. I have a very hard time understanding how it is this guy earned a reputation for “consistency.†The only thing consistent about McCain’s policy towards Iraq is that it changes every few months. Of course, that fits into a pattern with the senator. Long-time readers know what this means: it’s time to update the list of John McCain Biggest Flip-Flops. * McCain used to champion the Law of the Sea convention, even volunteering to testify on the treaty’s behalf before a Senate committee. Now he opposes it. * McCain was a co-sponsor of the DREAM Act, which would grant legal status to illegal immigrants’ kids who graduate from high school. Now he’s against it. * In 2006, McCain sponsored legislation to require grassroots lobbying coalitions to reveal their financial donors. In 2007, after receiving “feedback†on the proposal, McCain told far-right activist groups that he now opposes the measure. * McCain has been both open and closed to a redeploy-to-perimeter strategy in Iraq. * McCain said before the war in Iraq, “We will win this conflict. We will win it easily.†Four years later, McCain said he knew all along that the war in Iraq war was “probably going to be long and hard and tough.†* McCain said he was the “greatest critic†of Rumsfeld’s failed Iraq policy. In December 2003, McCain praised the same strategy as “a mission accomplished.†In March 2004, he said, “I’m confident we’re on the right course.†In December 2005, he said, “Overall, I think a year from now, we will have made a fair amount of progress if we stay the course.†* McCain went from saying he would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade to saying the exact opposite. * McCain went from saying gay marriage should be allowed, to saying gay marriage shouldn’t be allowed. * McCain criticized TV preacher Jerry Falwell as “an agent of intolerance†in 2002, but then decided to cozy up to the man who said Americans “deserved†the 9/11 attacks. * McCain used to oppose Bush’s tax cuts for the very wealthy, but he reversed course in February. * In 2000, McCain accused Texas businessmen Sam and Charles Wyly of being corrupt, spending “dirty money†to help finance Bush’s presidential campaign. McCain not only filed a complaint against the Wylys for allegedly violating campaign finance law, he also lashed out at them publicly. In April, McCain reached out to the Wylys for support. * McCain supported a major campaign-finance reform measure that bore his name. In June, he abandoned his own legislation. * McCain used to think that Grover Norquist was a crook and a corrupt shill for dictators. Then McCain got serious about running for president and began to reconcile with Norquist. * McCain took a firm line in opposition to torture, and then caved to White House demands. * McCain opposed a holiday to honor Martin Luther King, Jr., before he supported it. * McCain was against presidential candidates campaigning at Bob Jones University before he was for it. * McCain was anti-ethanol. Now he’s pro-ethanol. * McCain was both for and against state promotion of the Confederate flag. * McCain decided in 2000 that he didn’t want anything to do with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, believing he “would taint the image of the ‘Straight Talk Express.’†Kissinger is now the Honorary Co-Chair for his presidential campaign in New York. Now, it’s worth noting that there are worse qualities in a presidential candidate than changing one’s mind about a policy matter or two. McCain has been in Congress for decades; he’s bound to shift now and then on various controversies. But therein lies the point — McCain was consistent on most of these issues, right up until he started running for president, at which point he conveniently abandoned practically every position he used to hold. The problem isn’t just the incessant flip-flops; it’s the shameless pandering and hollow convictions behind the incessant flip-flops. It’s a shame what running for the Republican nomination will do to a guy, isn’t it? FROM: http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/13746.html Not a rant. McCain is nothing. No need to worry about him as a candidate because he like Obama is not even in the running. People that actually think McCain stands a chance have no sense whatsoever. I like people that rant. It shows that the person ranting cares about the issue. People who talk without emotion remind me of politicians. Most people know how full of crap a politician is. By the way I don't support Hillary I am just a realist. She has had the job for a long time. The rest is just opera.

I think you have to define what "failed policies" are w/ the Iraq war. Have their been a lot of failled policies in Iraq during the war? Absolutely, including the fact that Bush never sent in enough troops to stop a major insurgency. However, if the main reason to go into Iraq was to stop terrorists/Al Qaeda & prevent them from attacking the US again, well I'd say it's been an absolute success because the US has had a terror attack on it's soil since the Iraq war started.
8 :
Because they are too busy spreading lies for Hillary Clinton.

Any of the candidates this year are all career politicians, Thy have all flip flopped on numerous occasions. But to answer your initial question. The media is having way to much fun with the Obama - Hilary debacle. Mccain is not even running right now because the Dems are tearing each other up The "free Pass" will be over when the conventions are over and there is a clearer picture of what choice we have to pick from as President. As I have said before we can only vote for the one we think will do the LEAST damage. God help our United States of America.

Nice list. Don't expect Republicans to actually read through that list and meditate on it. Maybe you will get a few open-minded independents who have not fully made up their minds, if there even are any on Yahoo answers. To answer your question about why McCain gets a free ride, I would say that it is because of his military service. No one wants to admit that you can both serve your country with honor in a military capacity and be a shamelessly pandering politician, although that tactic did work on Jon Kerry (I think because the swift-boating undermined his service to the country in the eyes of the public, which was every bit as great as McCain's). The media created the "Straight talk express" narrative many years ago and they do not want to go back and admit that they are totally wrong about their man. They have short memories, little desire to fact check, and do not try to vet candidates. They only report the latest headline, which for the last month has been Wright. It is up to the liberals they have on their opinion shows to make that case - don't expect rank and file tv news reporters to discuss any of this.
What's a good excuse to quit my job?
What's a good excuse to quit my job?
After getting two jobs (one at a clothing store, and one at a fast-food restaurant) I'm quitting after 3wks. I was planning to use the money towards graduate school, but I'm not getting lots of hours, so I'm going back to my original plan of moving to South Korea to teach English. I need a good excuse to quit the jobs without making anybody angry. Any suggestions? One idea I have is that my mother's being sent to Iraq, so I have to go live with a relative in another state.

The best answer is a straight answer. Tell them the truth. And as far as your job is concerned, Find what you enjoy, and even if it doesn't pay much, stick to it. It won't be easy, but adjust your living standards according to your job. Learn to enjoy your life...through your work. After all, we spend so many of our waking hours for work, we might as well enjoy it.

" I am relocating to SK to teach English". Enough said.
4 :
I agree with the others. Just tell them that you are taking a position in SK. But, be pleasant. Tell them you have appreciated working for them.

Don't lie, just tell them the truth. They'll understand, and they'd be even angrier if they found out you lied.

I don't want to go to army in this country?
I don't want to go to army in this country?
I am living in south korea. and I don't want to go to army in here. becuz the people in the army force a person who looks weak or poor or not very social to commit suicide or they must make the person the psychopath or schizophrenic. even they burn bible in front the person who believes in jesus. the everyone who are not very social and look weak really became psychopaths or schizophrenic by the bullying and sexual harassment in the Army. even they force the people to do oral sex in the army. and if you don't pay money for sex trafficking, they make you commit suicide or become mental patient. (really many people became the mental patients after completing their military service.) but the everyone in this country just keep silent on it. I want to leave this country. I want to live in other place where has no korean.. this is too horrible.. why was I born ? to become a mental patient ? they really enjoy to harass poor people and rape poor females. did you see hot news in south korea in the past weak ? those generals and soliders and rich lawyers tried to have sex with teenage female. they cheated and used the young little girl. but it is a tip of iceberg. real life and society is more fucked.. but I am poor and I have no skills for jobs. but I want to make money. but I have fear to talk and mean people becuz I was harassed very hardly and brutally when I was student.. but if I can start new life in other place where has no korean, I will be able to do not die.. but now I am just waiting to die.. those people are same with the hitler. those people are too violent.. even I saw news they tried to burn the penis of the young solider (19 age) on this weak. what the hell is this ? this is the endless hell.. I DON'T FUCK WANT TO DIE ! YOU HELP ME ! this country's gov is more horrible and mad than the japan gov. Football Guy hey you are not korean. even did you finish your military service in south korea ? they really make a person commit suicide on purpose. and even the last president commited suicide. this country is the highest suicide rates. who the hell are you ? are you living in south korea over 20 years ? didn't you see even a person commits suicide around you ? I don't understand why the most people are very silent on it. you and the most people in here are all crazy. beyond the japanese.

You want to live in a place with no Koreans? Well, scratch Japan, China, the Philippines, Canada, the US, Australia, and New Zealand off your list as all of these countries have sizable Korean communities.

Slaps face. Bro I'm a korean and i'm proud of it. They don't do all that stuff you mentioned. And the military turns you into a man. And Korea is not worse than Japan. Read up on your history.
