Why do we make September 11th a sacred holiday???

Why do we make September 11th a sacred holiday???
People, or atleast those who think Americans are by default better than anyone else in the world, seem to have made 9/11 as important to their nationalist views as Christmas is to Christians. It is the day we Americans are told that freedom and peace come at a price. As this is said, our freedoms are withering away, and peace is promised at the beginning of each war, only to cause more wars and hence, no peace. September 11th was not an attack on our supposedly great way of life, other nations lead more or less the same lives but without attack from terrorists. People from Sweden, Brazil and South Korea lead the same lifestyles as Americans but they were not attacked by terrorists. Why? Perhaps because they don't attack other nations when it seems convenient? Nor do they strive to do so. The USA, on the other hand, spends more money on weapons of war than all other nations combined and at the same time does the most to interfere with the affairs of others. September 11 was the result. wildraft: the question is in the title No I do not apologize to or for the terrorists. I don't defend killers, regardless of what uniform they wear, what flag they serve, or whether they use car bombs or cruise missiles. KJB, who is standing up for the oppressed innocent people of Tibet, Belarus or North Korea? No one, they have nothing to offer the American elite.

I'm trying to find a question here, and all I get is "blah blah blah blah....".
2 :
September 11th a holiday? Damn my superviser forgot to give me the day off Monday!
3 :
Yeah they did such a good job with Memorial Day, the day to honor our fallen service people.
4 :
Are you apologizing to the terrorists for killing us? The terrorists are the victims of 9/11? You sound like a liberal.
5 :
I agree with you. This holiday was made to maintain the fear in the hearts and minds of the American people to get their support in the war against the so called terrorism. And so the owners of weapon and oil industry make their wealth bigger and bigger.
6 :
We remember September 11th because it was one of the most important moments in American history. We remember it because 3,000 INNOCENT people died. Whatever your loony political views, you should at least be able to recognize that! As far the US's wars......maybe you consider standing up for oppressed people and freedom to be "attacking other nations when it seems convienient" but to me it is doing what is right. Just look at who you are taking sides with.....people who want to kill you. Wake up doode. By the way, it is "ask a question", not "make a crackpot political statement". Because we can't help ALL then we are EVIL for helping some? Maybe we should help nobody?? You people are so cycnical....you question the motivation of all Republicans. You can't believe that we actually believe we are doing what is right? It seems to me that the vast majority of soldiers believe in what we are doing. They believe in it enough to volunteer....to put their life on the line for it. If you believe it is so wrong maybe you guys should start winning some elections and show us the correct way to do things.

Spain had barely anything to do with world politics (Franco wasn't real friendly with either side..) from 1945 - 2006, and yet the islamic terrorists put bombs on trains.

Why do we spend so much on weapons and war? Why do other nations call out to us when they are getting their butts handed to them by some natural disaster or terrorist cell? Why do we get belittled when we don't respond as fast as the world says we should to these problems? Why don't we sit idly by and watch the world go to crap? Because the world sees us and expects us to be there and we know what the right thing to do is. Be it a natural disaster or some terror wielding insurgency...we are the ones that are asked to lend a hand. Let these other countries live in their idyllic utopias. We can't, we are too big, too powerful, and much too responsible to sit on our haunches and watch. As for making 9-11 a national holiday...are we to allow such a horrific event to disappear into the fog of history as a footnote? I don't think that would be such a great idea at all. It should be recognized as a national tragedy that need not be repeated. All Americans should be vigilant in this and remember that there are those out there that would rather take your life from you as look at you. Let's not allow complacency to creep in and allow another 9-11 to happen. Keep the awareness high. Remind people of the danger. And be proud of your nation and the attempts made to make the world a better place. There is a reason that other countries look to America for help. Our compassion and strength are just a few of them.

What are my chances of admission into an ivy league school? What more should I do?

What are my chances of admission into an ivy league school? What more should I do?
I'm an international(South Korea) engineering-hopeful applicant. My "resume": -GPA 3.8 (Sadly, my school is disgustingly hypercompetitive). -TOEFL(internet based) - 120/120 -SAT - 2380(I might take it again) -SATII: Chemistry, Physics, Both Maths - 800 -AP: Calculus BC, Physics B, Physics C, Chemistry (All 5) -Student council all three years of high school -60-70 hours of community service -Baksetball team(If that matters) I'm super personable and speak perfect English, but a few hitches are making me hesitant in applying: 1. I'm not rich. WIthout a scholarship, I couldn't attend even if I were admitted 2. I've already graduated from high school 3. I have no ties with America I have to spend an awful lot of money to apply for college because I need to have a third-party translate my report cards into English and send them to the schools I tell them to. If I don't stand a chance I'd rather save the money. Thanks in advance!!

As with everything, it's not what you know, but who you know. Research the past graduates of the school, and see who's butt would liked to be kissed the most! Pucker up.
2 :
Ivy League schools might be out of the question but only for the last reason you have given. Admissions wants to get people in their school who will do well, succeed in the world and then give back to the school. That is why in most places the alumni table is set up as soon as you get off of the stage after walking. I would focus a lot on your community service and your ability to give back especially to people and orginazations who have helped you in the past. If they they think you are going to go back to South Korea and take all of the money you make with you they will be less likely to admit you.

Honestly, your resume looks great and by great I mean you're practically a shoe in ... but it will be kind of hard getting into an ivy-league school as an international student without much money. The best bet you have is to search for as much aid as possible ... obviously in advance, scholarships are out there but you really have to search and search early. There are many universities that offer large amounts of aid to international students but there are also many international students trying to get into ivy-league schools. Good luck with your search and remember sadly there are always loans !

how do I do ? this country is too violent?

how do I do ? this country is too violent?
I am 22 years old and I am living in south korea. and in this small country, I see many news that children are dead by corporal punishment at the school or raped by those teachers and teenage students commit suicide or they become gangs. the first reason that this country is very violent and has no mercy for weak, poor people is that males must go to live in the army for 2 years. but really many people commit suicide in the army. or they become psycho or rapist or criminals or get mental disease by the violence in the army. I don't understand why UN doesn't ban the corporal punishment in this country. really many children are being disables or get mental disease or even they commit suicide. but I never seen that rich people's sons go to the army or get punished by teacher. and the society in this country is very unfair. even they tacitly admit to kill their kids who have some disability or who are ugly. and even if I finish the military duty, there is no hope. they drink alcohol too much in the company even they eat dog. and most of them are rotten. they do everythig to win other people and make money as crazy. and I was about to die really by the punishment when I was 10~12 years old kid. now it is a trauma. in these days, I remember and feel the pain often when I was punished very hard very. but I can't erase my memory. and the reason why I am punished by the teacher is that I didn't go to the school for 1 day because those students harassed me very hard because I was always alone and I was very poor. but and I was about to get some mental disease really because the everyone harassed me everydays all days at the school and the everyone never helped me. even the teacher thought I am a bad man. but I never lost my strong self-confidence. because the everything was unfair. I hate unfair thing. even if I die or fight, I don't admit the unfair thing. and I fought really many times to protect myself alone. but I have no father and mother is very poor. and I couldn't study well (every students in here study at the private institute not the school. no one can learn a good thing without money in here. and they cheat and lie each other at the school even the teachers cheat and lie. what the fuck is this ? and I moved house very frequently. but every schools were same.) that was female teacher. but she looked like a male soldier not a female. but I was very confident and didn't lose my passion against the monster because the everything was unfair. but she hitted my hip 40~60 times with a very thick club. but my hip was almost bloody. before I die, I gave up and I cried as crazy really but at the time still I hated more those students who harassed me. still I can remember their face. their faces were all evils. also after I am punished, they kept to speak to me to harass me. but fucking I don't know a thing. what is going on here ? I am 10-12 years old kid. and I have been transferred from another school for 1 month. even if I was dirty, they should think about my affairs. 10-12 years old kid can't figure out a thing in the situatoin. I am very poor and I have no relatives and father. anyway I am doing my best really as crazy. and even my liver went bad because I eaten only fast food, ramen (but I am not so fat. but I couldn't be more tall) and lived very dirty in all my life and now I am about to be a Mental Patient. I did my best. but no one helped and cared and teached me. really No one. (but some people liked me because I had strong confidence and I fought very well when I was kid and I am philosophical. so I trusted my self because at least some people liked my way. ) but the everyone tried to lie and cheat me. now I have nothing and I realize my whole life was a huge shit. but I don't want to live alone forever like this but I have phobia and fears of talking to people. I am very serious anti-social person now. but I did my best in my life. I didn't die. I want to have the place to live alone for 2751 years. Yeah this country is in cold war against north korea. but why must I be harassed forever ? and I can stand anything very well. but it is too hard to do it in these days. because I am old. and still I don't see a hope in here. and I see news that children are dead by the corporal punishment and even commit suicide by the torture. and even they are raped. and even if they kill or rape teenage, they spend only 2~10 years in prison if they are drunk or a mental patient. I am enjoying my sadness very well like this. I am enjoying this really. I really enjoy this. but I don't want to die in here. here is too many faces that I don't want to face. also I am the same intelligence like all of you in the world. hey. world. at least ban the corporal punishment in south korea. at least don't kill and punish children. really most people are committing suicide or murder other people in these days why do you enjoy t

Where do American liberals get this canard from?

Where do American liberals get this canard from?
I am wondering if anyone can point out to me where liberals get this canard from. I CONSTANTLY hear liberals saying that America is hated all over the world. But I don't know of anywhere that the citizens or the "country" as a whole hates America except for those countries with a predominant Muslim majority. I am originally from Spain and I still have a lot of family and friends there, as well as in France and the UK. I have never once heard any of them express any anti-American sentiments. Some people express disagreement with our politics, but Americans express disagreement with other's politics as well. It doesn't mean one side hates the other side, only in the liberal mind are things so black and white. I work in the medical field and there are people from all different countries, the Phillipines, South Korea, Trinidad, Haiti, France, Poland, Hungary.... I have never once heard any anti-American sentiments from them, and I believe they would be open to talking to me about it knowing I am not an American citizen. I love my home country, Spain, but I came to the United States because there is so much more opportunity to work and make money. I'm so happy to be here, where I can make a life for myself and my daughter. In Spain I couldn't really do that. But anyway, I digress. Are liberals just projecting their feelings on the rest of the world? Can anyone give me an example of a country or group of people outside the US that are not Muslim radicals or communist dicators? Why do you guys spread this canard around like it's fact?

its part of their pathology.

It's just them trying to brainwash the rest of the country into becoming a pussy nation who lets crazy muslims breed like rabbits and terrorize the world.
3 :
Where do you get the idea that countries with a Muslim majority hate America? Isn't that a bit of a generalization? To me it sounds like the pot calling the kettle black.
4 :
I think they are projecting their own hatred onto others. They do not think Americans should stand up for themselves. Interesting, since Obama is turning his back on Israel and trying to talk his way out of the Middle East. What Obama fails to understand is that other countries aren't as ignorant as liberal Americans and they will not buy what he's selling. Liberal Americans are the only ones buying his B.S.

I can only speak of personal experience. My job requires me to travel often to other countries. I have been doing this job for 21 years so I have been able to witnesses the ebbs and flows up close and personal. During late 2002 until late 2007 I got an enormous amount of flack when I was outside the country. I began to effect an irish brogue for travel throughout Europe because once people heard my american accent they would become rude and pushy. After the 2004 election I can't tell you how many people asked me what we were thinking of, reelecting bush. When the 2008 election cycle began warming up, things were less tense. Now, the only place I have had a problem is in Haiti (before the earthquake) where I was required to hire and travel with bodyguards. Now in Europe I get some good natured ribbing about the divide in the country, but it isn't anything like it used to be. Specifically in Germany, they are back to shouting "it's the american!" when I get there - that had stopped for a number of years. So I can't speak for the rest of the Americans, but in my experience, it is very true. (I went to Spain twice in 2004-2005 - they were very welcoming but I was the subject of a great deal of joking about the crazy Americans!)

I believe it give them a platform in which they can use to change us into something we are not.
