I'm a South Korean teenage girl learning English as my second language. There was a writing assignment in my school and I have trouble dividing the paragraphs into intro, body and conclusion. Please help me. My essay topic is: What are your opinions on world trade and globalization? My essay: Let’s say that you are an orange farmer in South Korea, and, you are just starting up your first business. You aim to market domestically and will be able to employ over 50 laborers. What problems will you face? You would be worried about competition from South Asia and Africa, especially plantations in Philipines or Indonesia, because that’s where climates are adequate to grow grapes, and it’s also much cheaper to produce there. However, it puts our industries and government in an awkward position. It takes our chances to make any profits if we are purchasing foreign products rather than developing our own businesses. That’s why countries employ protective trade measures against globalization. It is important to give their own industries space to grow until they are strong enough to compete with foreign markets. The use of tariffs can be a good example, or other kind of regulations and barriers on trade arrangements. Some might ask, “how does this all fit into globalization? We all know that the economy today is fueled by imports and exports.†However, we should not forget that the world is still undergoing changes due to increased globalization. In this point of view, the major premise of free trade, that of allowing for a less self-secure and more globally centered trade system is not very attractive to begin with. At this point of time, what might say that most nations would consider globalization if they knew that their economic stability would increase in the end. And this is where the big debate lies. Globalization is based on a theory, but in reality that theory doesn’t work out quite so smoothly. On a social level, as soon as one person wants to make more than others, globalization is thrown out the window. Then, of course, there are practical implications on the development of new businesses and industries. What are some things you can do to advertise a host family to foreign exchange students?
My family is trying to host foreign exchange students from South Korea in our house. We have no income, so we have nothing else to do but this. We live in Howard County in Maryland, a #3 rated for its educational system. We want to spark some interest in those exchange students to come live and study here. We tried getting connections through a foreign exchange administering organization in South Korea, but they charge the students 5k and we get 600 per month. So we want to lower that by about 1k and receive the rest of the money; it is cheaper for the exchange student, and a plus for us. But we have absolutely NO way of selling ourselves. I was thinking website, but how can we verify our authenticity without looking suspicious as those computer ads? How can we make these people believe we are trustworthy people? PLEASE WHAT CAN WE DO? Note: We have already had one foreign exchange from South Korea, and he LOVED the experience. But connections that he gives us all say we are too expensive (because they are from a poorer region.) We do have ONE reference though; we just need to spread the word somehow. Ps. I see where you are coming from, but I would just like to state that that my siblings are the ones who are currently supporting our family in terms of income. The reason we can even stay in these parts of the neighborhood is because we can ONLY pay our morgage, electric, water, all living expenses. As for health insurance issues and such, this is all covered in the contract that we sign when they come to our house to homestay. There's even an associated dedicated to making money off of providing a house to stay in to get an education in America, so I'm sorry, but these foreign exchange students do not feel that what we do is terrible, nor do we. They require what is needed to succeed in America. They simply require a home to stay in in America, because their parents cannot afford to stay in America, but they need the good education that America provides them. I suppose it is not exactly a Foreign exchange program, more of a Rent for foreigners. Pss. The association is located in the Asian countries, so you would most likely not know about it; different rules apply, I suppose

Your family has no income so you want to make money off the students you host. Do you not understand how completely terrible that sounds? If you are trying to host students who only want to come to the US to practice English and experience a new culture to make money, then your hearts are in entirely the wrong place. If your family has no money then you should not be hosting students--period. You should not be trying to arrange your own private hosting "service." I wouldn't be surprised if this was against the law for one (because you'll essentially be running a business without going through the proper channels), but also it is extremely dangerous for the kids involved. And I'm not saying that you are dangerous here. I'm not suggesting you might harm them purposefully in any way. What I am saying is a family with no stable income is not the right place for a host child. So you want to take this kid's family's $4,000 to use because you currently don't have an income to support yourselves. And you think $4,000 will be enough to cover not just rent and utilities and food (+ one extra mouth to feed) but also emergency expenses? How are you going to afford for the kid's health insurance? What if he gets sick and needs a doctor? What if he knocks a tooth out? What if he breaks an arm? Gets in an accident? Or even dies while he's in your care? Your family will be the ones held responsible and if you have no income I doubt you have the health insurance to cover anything. Even if you're on government-assisted health insurance, that's not going to cover the kid. Exchange programs do not exist because they like to make money. They exist to allow children a chance to experience something new. The money that goes to fund them is not just stuffed inside the wallet of the president. It's used to find further advertisement, administration costs, money to pay for the workers, and also to provide health insurance to the child so when accidents do happen, you will not be the ones held responsible.

This would be a one year deal. If you hire a US citizen to work for a US company in USA, then you get a tax credit for the first $25,000 that you pay to that US citizen working for your US company in USA. It's actually Constitutional to make laws for the benefit of US citizens. There's no requirement in the Constitution that every single one of our laws has to benefit somebody else, maybe in Taiwan or India, or South Korea, or China. It's OK for the Congress to help Americans. That's why we call this country OUR COUNTRY!! This tax credit is a lot of money, and businesses should not be encouraged to hire frivolously employees that are not doing real jobs just to get the tax credit -- safeguards need to be there to prevent this sort of "gaming the system" dislocation. All tax credit claims should be scrutinized carefully to make sure they are justified and in good faith -- actual factual good faith -- not phony, not contrived rip offs. But you get more of the things you reward. If you massively reward hiring US citizens in USA, you will get more of that. If you can break the back of unemployment -- you can break the back of this Recession. Once people are being paid to do jobs, they have money. When they have money, demand picks up. When there is demand, business picks up. When business picks up then all the greedy millionaires become multi-millionaires, and the multi-millionaires become billionaires. So the employable are benefitted, the businesses are benefitted, and as usual the rich are benefitted. The only people that don't get a benefit here are the hard core unemployable. But this isn't the first place, they have failed to get a benefit, so please don't hold that against my suggestion. The structurally indigent poor we will always have with us -- you imagine that I thought of that -- but actually somebody said it before me. Guess who. So, what's the downside? I was hoping you wouldn't ask, but now you have, so I'll be frank. Tax rates go back to 1999 levels for everybody, rich, poor, middle class, everybody. You can't spend all money in all directions all the time on everything and then expect to have any money. My suggestion is better than the Obama plan because it is laser pinpoint focused on the actual problem I am trying to solve. I want to end the Great Recession. So I want more Americans employed in USA. So, that's what I want to spend my money on --- Reward what you really want. You get more of what you reward. You think I should get the Peter Drucker Prize for Management by Objectives, but I will actually settle for two smelt and a scrod, thank you so much, just toss them into my pool. The tax credit is just a gimmick meant to make it look like the Obama administration is doing something. Tax credits to hire employees only make sense if the employer has a need to hire employees, which would happen whether or not there is a tax credit. The only reason to hire someone is that you have more work than can be accomplished by your current labor force. Until and unless we lower tax rates for everyone, we will have 10% or more unemployment

Her actions soon became public and exposes the bullying within the school. Engaged by this, Gu Jun Pyo declares war on Jan Di and encourages the other students to bully her. Jan Di, however, is resistant, refusing to apologize to Gu Jun Pyo, and stands by her decision to fight him. Ironically, Gu Jun Pyo, having never been stood up to, begins to develop feelings for her. One day, Yi Jung finds Ga Eul crying after she is dumped by her boyfriend. He advises her to let him go, and later, to make her feel better, the two show up to a club in which he is attending. Yi Jung pretends to be in love with Ga Eul to make her ex jealous. He gives her his scarf and walks her home. After this, Ga Eul finds herself smitten with Yi Jung. On Valentine's Day, she waits outside his house, planning to give him chocolates. He shows up with two girls on his arm and on his table, he already has dozens of chocolates from other girls. When Ga Eul is upset, Yi Jung reminds her that their night at the club was only an act, and it's not his fault if she took it too seriously. Yi Jung feels bad, and gives Ga Eul a cake and flowers, when he mistakenly thinks it's her birthday. The two become friendly again. As love begins to blossom between Jan Di and Jun Pyo, Jun Pyo's mother discovers them and deems it unsuitable. She does everything in her power to keep the two apart, even arranging a marriage for Jun Pyo. The other F4 members and Ga Eul try to bring them back together. Yi Jung and Song Woo Bin came up with a few plans, but they fail. They resort to So Yi Jung and Ga Eul pretending to go on a fake date, which upsets Jan Di because she doesn't consider Yi Jung good enough for her friend. She follows the two around with Jun Pyo by her side, making sure Yi Jung is treating Ga Eul appropriately. At first their plan was successful but because of Jun Pyo's mother, their relationship became strained again. After their date, Ga Eul finds her self falling for Yi Jung again. Yi Jung feels the same way, but he can't bring himself to admit it, due to his doubt in true love. After a talk with the first girl Yi Jung loved, Ga Eul admits to Yi Jung how she feels about him and asks if he'll go on a real date with her. He rejects her, saying he doesn't date nice girls, foolish girls, or girls connected to his friends. He later changes his mind, and takes her out, though he spends all his time ignoring Ga Eul, and talking to other women. Their date ends with Ga Eul throwing water in Yi Jung's face. Other factors keep arising as another member of the group falls in love with Jan Di (which was Yoon Ji Hoo) and in a twist of fate, Jun Pyo loses his memory. A girl named Jang Yu Mi which was on the same hospital where Jun Pyo was confined, takes advantage on him to make him fall in love with her. Geum Jan Di never gives up for Jun Pyo to remember his love for her, she falls in the swimming pool letting Jun Pyo reminise his love for her. On Jan Di's graduation, Jun Pyo proposes to her on the cable car at the NamSan Tower where their first date was held. Gu Jun Pyo told Jan Di that he needs to study abroad to fix problems regarding Shinhwa. One day, Yi Jung finds Ga Eul crying after she is dumped by her boyfriend. He advises her to let him go, and later, to make her feel better, the two show up to a club in which he is attending. Yi Jung pretends to be in love with Ga Eul to make her ex jealous. He gives her his scarf and walks her home. After this, Ga Eul finds herself smitten with Yi Jung. On Valentine's Day, she waits outside his house, planning to give him chocolates. He shows up with two girls on his arm and on his table, he already has dozens of chocolates from other girls. When Ga Eul is upset, Yi Jung reminds her that their night at the club was only an act, and it's not his fault if she took it too seriously. Yi Jung feels bad, and gives Ga Eul a cake and flowers, when he mistakenly thinks it's her birthday. The two become friendly again. As love begins to blossom between Jan Di and Jun Pyo, Jun Pyo's mother discovers them and deems it unsuitable. She does everything in her power to keep the two apart, even arranging a marriage for Jun Pyo. The other F4 members and Ga Eul try to bring them back together. Yi Jung and Song Woo Bin came up with a few plans, but they fail. They resort to So Yi Jung and Ga Eul pretending to go on a fake date, which upsets Jan Di because she doesn't consider Yi Jung good enough for her friend. She follows the two around with Jun Pyo by her side, making sure Yi Jung is treating Ga Eul appropriately. At first their plan was successful but because of Jun Pyo's mother, their relationship became strained again. After their date, Ga Eul finds her self falling for Yi Jung again. Yi Jung feels the same way, but he can't bring himself to admit it, due to his doubt in true love. After a talk with the first girl Yi Jung loved, Ga Eul admits to Yi Jung how she feels about him and asks if he'll go on a real date with her. He rejects her, saying he doesn't date nice girls, foolish girls, or girls connected to his friends. He later changes his mind, and takes her out, though he spends all his time ignoring Ga Eul, and talking to other women. Their date ends with Ga Eul throwing water in Yi Jung's face. Other factors keep arising as another member of the group falls in love with Jan Di (which was Yoon Ji Hoo) and in a twist of fate, Jun Pyo loses his memory. A girl named Jang Yu Mi which was on the same hospital where Jun Pyo was confined, takes advantage on him to make him fall in love with her. Geum Jan Di never gives up for Jun Pyo to remember his love for her, she falls in the swimming pool letting Jun Pyo reminise his love for her. On Jan Di's graduation, Jun Pyo proposes to her on the cable car at the NamSan Tower where their first date was held. Gu Jun Pyo told Jan Di that he needs to study abroad to fix problems regarding Shinhwa. What do you think of the first 100 days of Obama?
Well here's how i see it. He just past a "New Deal" stimulus and he didn't even read it. Why is this bad? Who the hell is going to pay for it? There isn't enough rich people to pay for this! So we're going to tax the upper class or aka the class which runs most of the business in America- good idea just hurt the actual producers of wealth. If Obama and the liberals cant learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. When FDR took office in 1933 unemployment was over 24%. In 1939, it was 17.2%. In 1943 (During WW2) it was 1.9%. In FDRs seventh year in office, unemployment was still over 17% (Before WW2). That doesnt really seem to me like something that worked really well. World War II on the other hand did get us out of the Depression. It made unemployment go away AND it woke up the indurstrial might of the U.S. The New Deal did not. I certainly do not want another world war. Obamas New Deal is also something I could do without- like the fact that he trippled our national debt. How about the high spending and expansion of Government? Or the large amounts of government programs being launched? JUST LIKE THE CARTER YEARS! Remember what that lead to? 10 million unemployed and double digit inflation ring a bell? Since taxes are going to be raised- remember how those big taxes destroyed our economy back then? Remember how wind fall taxes lead to our oil prices going up- well those taxes are coming back! Don't you people learn from history? More government, more spending, and more taxes does NOT lead to economic growth! Just look at how Germany rebuilt itself after WW2- it used economic policies that are very similar to Reaganomics! Good Job Obama, you're using the same shit thats failed many times before! I love how he also thought that he had the right to take over a company! Or how he could fire the members! I didn't even have to read all that to know that he has done a horrible job. He's a good orator and smooth talker but that's about all. I could sit here and write pages about why he has set us, and our future generations, so far back. I think it would be futile. People will only understand as they see the fruits of this Obamanation. They only thing I can say he has been successful at is cramming socialism and liberal special interests down our throats at an amazing rate.

Army; Authorizing OCONUS Travel for Spouse due to PCS?
I have been having a huge problem with the Army concerning this ordeal, so just let me start from the beginning: I was stationed in Korea for a period of two years (April 08 - April 10). I met my wife in Korea, she is a Korean national, and we wed in February 2010. After we got married I went to my S1 shop to make sure she would get put on my orders since I was PCSing soon. They told me to wait until I actually get my orders. Well something messed up and I had to report to Ft. Knox, Ky on the day I was supposed to DEROS. So when I got those orders I took them to S1 to amend the orders and put my wife on them. Then they told me I couldn't do that since I don't have 1 year left on my contract, (but I was barred from re-enlisting at that time due to a medical condition. Otherwise I would have). So they told me when I get to Knox, the S1 there can do it. So I arrived here at Knox on April 12th, and immediatly began working on getting my wife over here. I went to S1 to talk to them about amending my orders, but they said it's impossible to do it in Ky since the orders were cut in Korea. They got a hold of someone back in Korea and said it was absolutely possible my wife could have been put on orders to travel to the States at the governments expense (since she is my dependent). Either my last S1 didn't know about it, or were too lazy. So the S1 and finance office began helping me put her on my orders. They have been communicating with someone back in Korea to help me out. Finally my orders were amended from the original to stating this, (I am only copying the pertinate paragraph): (d) Dependents (YES) reimbursement for land travel in the continental United States during the Permanent Change of Station portion of movement to assist in the movement of your dependents, privately owned vehicle and HHG is limited to that from the cost effective APOD to the authorized designated location of your dependents at Pocheon City, South Korea 487-831 and onward movement to your next duty station. Ok. Now I spotted this problem from the get-go. It states "Reimbursement for land travel in the continental United States". There is no mention of overseas travel. Now. My wife went to the travel office back in Korea with the original orders, and the amended orders. But they gave no mention of that little part, all they told her was that she is unauthorized to fly at the govt's expense because she is a Korean, and we married in Korea. I have never, in my military career, heard of that type of rule before. As far as I was aware, dependents are authorized free travel as long as they are on orders. Doesn't matter if they are Korean, Philipino, Russian, or Mexican. She has an ID card, is enrolled in TriCare, has a passport, and her Visa. There shouldn't be any issues here. So what my S1 is attempting to do now, is contact their contact in Korea and see if he can amend the orders once more and put in she is authorized overseas flight travel. But they said it probably wouldn't work. Tickets are about $1,200 and I don't have that kind of money to spend on a ticket, and the medical portion of her Visa expires in a month. Has anyone ever heard of a dependent being denied authorized travel due to being a non-US citizen (even though she is listed as my dependent)? Does anyone have any experience in this kind of a situation? How about a regulation I can throw in their face? I was searching the internet but couldn't really find anything on this. And are there any other options I can use in-case the orders thing falls through? I know this was long, and I appreciate any help I can get. 19K

I have 2 points to state here: 1. Write your Congressional Representative. The military had to approve your marriage and obviously approved your orders (amended) so they are in the wrong and need to be held accountable. Trust me when I say, writing your congressman gets results. Just do yourself a favor and make sure your commander knows what you are doing. They hate surprise calls about congressionals. 2. If she has a passport and a visa, as you stated, why not just buy her a ticket and get her over here? Yes it would cost you, but I bet your bride would appreciate your effort. Good luck and thanks for your service.

She cannot use Space A for travel as she is overseas herself without you with her. She could have used it while you were stationed overseas to travel to and from the mainland or if you are deployed longer than 120 days. But as she is attempting to move to the US from Korea it is not an option. She could have been authorized travel even if she is Korean because she is listed as a dependent. But because the orders were amended after you had reported in the US that could be why they will not grant her the ticket. You can go to Army Family Services and talk to them about it and see if they will give you teh money to pay for hte ticket. This would be a loan that you repay back each month but it is an option. Then when she arrives you take the ticket and file it with Travel office and see if they will refund the money. She does need to fly on an American carrier not Korean.

she's not authorized cuz she is considered an aquired dependent.. she was NOT on your orders to Korea so she is ineligible to be flown From Korea to your next duty station. you will have to foot the bill yourself or get a AER loan to cover it. In other words, they never foot the bill for her to go to Korea so they won't foot the bill for her to leave Korea. her being a dependent is not in question. only her eligibility for authorized travel expenses. once she arrives in the States all orders after that should have her included automatically(Ibarring any trips to Diego Garcia or Souda Bay)

Well I came to United States in the year of 2006 from South Korea, and now I'm a Junior at a high school in Arizona. First my parents told me that I was visiting my Aunt and Uncle for their renewal of vows, and I came thinking it as just a vacation with my grand parents. I thought I was staying here for about a month meeting my cousins and such, until the school was starting that year. I was told by my parents that I was now going to stay here in Arizona and study and live here, so by the time the school began (7th grade), my grand parents were long gone. At first I didn't want to stay here and do this, but I was forced to do so against my own will. I've now spent almost 5 years now and I'm going to be 17 soon. I was told that I was going to be adopted by my Uncle and Aunt for my citizenship (I have no idea how that's going to work out), and that my parents would later once I receive my citizenship would come over and live with us. My parents have spent tons of money to send me to school here, but I've only disappointed them with my grades during my Junior year and both myself and my parents are worried about me not getting scholarship to a better college and blah blah blah. The thing is, I'm worried that if some how people find about my situation and decide to DEPORT ME BACK TO KOREA! For now, I have no desire to go back, I've made decent friends here, and going back would screw my life up so much, I would rather kill myself than getting deported back. I just feel like being stuck in a middle of some important immigration thing, but I just feel powerless in the situation. My Uncle when I was first told that I was staying here, persuaded me into staying here, it was like candies to my ears--which also have almost never come true. I feel that I'm not getting equal treatment as my cousins are, even though we're paying a lot to stay here and are planning to get me and my brother adopted here. I've had ever since disadvantage of not knowing and speaking English fluently- which has promptly swayed me from doing better in academics, since our cultures in Korea and here are totally different I was unaware of stuffs doing in Korea were just freaky in here, and my Uncle never bothered to tell me, and from that I've had this extreme self-conscious that makes me feel anti-social and just dumb guy who can't even make friends with people who I don't feel comfortable with. And another thing is, I don't get to drive while all of my friends and my cousin DO! only because I don't have a green card, and it makes me feel soooo... left out... I feel helpless because my parents are on the other side of the planet and I'm scared that things won't go as well as they have planned for myself and my brother... What am I supposed to do in this situation? Should I continue studying to go to college here and live here? Or should I prepare to be deported and find a way of getting back here? Because no matter what happens I don't plan on going back to Korea, because I'm just already too used to here and my Korean right now is so bad, its just useless to me (basically Korean:English ratio is 25%:75%)... What would be the best and worst result of this, and could someone explain how this adopting thing would work for me? Thanks so much, and God bless.

The adopting ship has sailed, darling. In order for it to work, you have to be under 16. Your Family waited too long.

If your parents can afford it, you should consult an immigration lawyer. Don't tell your uncle about it because from your story I suspect that he hasn't been honest with you. My understanding is that if you are residing in the U.S. without proper documentation, then you cannot regularize your status. Perhaps there are some ways around this, but you definitely need to start asking questions. Start with an immigration lawyer first.

Your parents are criminals and you need to go back to Korea. Also, you will be unable to receive scholarships as you are here illegally.

You need to go back home before you turn 18 1/2., otherwise, you will be living in hiding for the rest of your life. If you leave AFTER you turned 181/2, you will be facing a 10 year ban from coming back to the US. Talk to an attorney.

Since you're almost 17 now, it's too late to be adopted for citizenship. The age limit is 16. It appears that you came on a tourist visa, overstayed, and have been attending public schools for free, so I wonder why your parents are paying so much money unless it is room and board to your aunt and uncle. Had your parents spent that money on a F-1 visa and private school tuition instead, you would be in the US legally and able to get a driver's license. If you want to remain in the US, you need to leave within 6 months of your 18th birthday and apply for a F-1 visa to enroll in a US college or university. You are eligible for scholarships and aid at private colleges and universities. If you are unable to do that, then you can attend a university in Korea. Don't worry about your Korean language skills or your ability to adapt. I taught Korean university students who were raised abroad. They quickly learned the academic language needed to be successful in college and they reconnected with their native culture. Some universities even offer English-language undergraduate programs. As you probably know, you have much easier admission standards than Korean students in Korea because of your longtime overseas study. As a minor, you are under the authority of your parents and aunt and uncle, but once you become an adult, you have control over your life. You can have the life you want if you make informed choices and accept the consequences. Good luck!
