I am planning my gap year travels for next year, could anyone help me?
If anyone has any necessary information for me i'd be really grateful, as after searching the internet for hours, i have not been able to find anything apart from 'gap-year websites' acting as a travel agent. Ideally, i would like to travel these asian countries (south korea, Japan,Hong-Kong,Thailand & Borneo) Then move on to Australia,New zealand & fiji. Additionally, i would love to visit some south american countries such as: Brazil, peru, panama, costa rica & mexico. But i am unsure whether it is possible to do this easily on my trip as i am on a tight budget? Sorry if this question doesnt make a lot of sense, but really i am just seeking advice on the best ways to travel between the countries listed and additional information such as visas needed/work permits as i would like to do some paid work. I just need to decide on my destinations quickly so I can start saving the money for it asap! Thank you so much to anyone who answers :)

Pick a couple countries and see them in depth rather than taking too many in at once. That seems like too many, especially if your on a tight budget. South America alone is a huge trip. Asia is a huge trip and Australia/NZ is big. Take them separately so you can really enjoy them. What is your purpose of going? Do you just want to get drunk and sleep around or are you looking for a true cultural experience? Find your answer to this question and that will help narrow down your country choices. Why don't you plan on working abroad? Get a 12 month visa for working in Australia and New Zealand. Its very easy to get and you can work as you travel. It basically helps you pay for your trip and working is a great way to meet people as you travel. Also I would get a round the world plane ticket for the trip. For train info find it at seat61 website. I also recommend researching the countries more before you just decide to go. Question: Do you know how expensive Japan is? Answer: Very

Can someone tell me what this war is about?

Can someone tell me what this war is about?
Gonna rant here some: I love The United States of America, I support the troops and I just wish there could be peace and all this fear would be gone. Having typed that, I don't understand this war. Could 9/11 and this current war been avoided if the U.S. was not involved in a bunch of Middle East nonsense in the first place? Could Bush have stopped 9/11 from happening if he had not been on vacation? And would things really be that horrible if the troops were withdrawn today? I love American History, but I really don't follow most of today's issues nearly as much as I follow history and I should, but history already tells me what is going on in the world today and it seems most of our wars are started by rich people wanting to make money and gain power while poor men and women are off fighting the rich people's wars. These two wars we are in right now, Vietnam, Korea, The American Civil War, etc. All seem pretty senseless to me. And let me add this very quickly so no one gets the wrong idea - Lincoln could have bought all the slaves and I don't think over 600,000 Americans dying all so the South could not have it's own nation was worth it, nor was ending slavery. Slavery would have ended on it's own in due time. Every other country ended slavery without a war. Why couldn't we have done the same? I'm not trying to change the topic and I am hardly a redneck, nor am I a lost cause neo-Reb or someone who hates his country.....I am just making a point that it seems that the media lives off fear and that we're all being played like a bunch of suckers and that human lives should be one of the first things considered before anything else. It also seems like rich people with all the power having been causing senseless wars for way too long now in this country and I wish Americans would learn from the past generation's misakes instead of repeating them. We're just going in circles it seems and we're bringing on so much violence. I am also not defending Bin Laden and his people by the way. I think it's messed up that WE have to pay for the errors our leaders make and have to live in fear of being blown up. Shoot, ever since 9/11, I've have a fear of flying. I also want to go to London at some point for a trip, but I'd be lying if I didn't add I wasn't consider because I know England has to deal with the same nonsense! I consider England to be good friends to my country and I have family that lives there and I'd like for them to have peace as well. I think American and British troops should be allowed to go home and we can go back to having peace and let the Middle East do to itself what it always has done and probably always will do and that is fight. Hey, let them have at it. Just as long as the U.S. and the U.K. are away from all that. Wrenched - Thank you for posting that and I am not trying to offend you, but I'm not religious. In fact, you just gave an example of why I believe religion is destroying the world. People are dying for NOTHING. All because some old book says to kill, you're suppose to? That's insane. How come no one has ever questioned the book? Why just be a blind follower to something you cannot prove is real? I cannot support any belief that chooses to worship a figure they cannot see or hear and destory human life all for that figure you cannot see or hear. I believe God only exists in the human mind the same way the Flying Spaghetti Monster exists in a crazy person's mind. I believe religion was invented to control society by the same rich and corrupt men who cause war to make money. I hope religion is wiped out one day and this become an athiest world. You don't see atheists killing in the same of atheism. Before anyone mentions Hitler or Stalin, those men did what they did because of who they were, not because they were atheist. The United States of America is a huge Christian nation and we have loads of violence. The middle east is another big region that is all about "God" and look how much violence they have. A belief in a God does not make you a good person. In fact, it can make you into a very evil person who sees nothing wrong with murder.

Wow this is a good question - I don't know how many answers you'll get since most people on here won't read that much. I think most of the recent conflict between the "west" (America, UK, EU, Israel, etc) comes from the Islamic countries coming into their own in terms of wealth, power and education. They were broken up into colonies under European imperialism and later made into countries by sheer luck-of-the-draw with no regards to what cultures would be living together in each country and that created a ton of internal tension there. Then the creation of Israel escalated it and caused hatred for Jews and more hatred for the west. Now the Islamic countries are gaining wealth, power and the balls to use it. They don't agree with our values and culture and they are taught that we are evil nations, which is why I think that a lot could be accomplished by understanding rather than just causing wars which re-inforce their view of us. We'll never get anywhere just starting wars. Both western nations and Islamic nations (many of which are democratic contrary to popular belief) will have to realize how to share the world with each other or we're going to blow each other off the map.
2 :
First, I really appreciate someone who likes to look at history for possible answers to today's problems. That being said, there is one problem with your premise. 9/11 was more the result of the extremism of certain Islamic sects that feel any American involvement, including simple trade or economic support, is wrong. Many of these people will preach Holy War, to fight against "western" interests which they feel is contrary to Islamic Laws and Rights. America has been involved in numerous affairs throughout the world since the end of World War II, and these extremists feel that striking their chief enemies (the west) by using violence will make us go away. 9/11 was the result of these teachings and thus came the retaliation from the U.S. and our allies. So, the answer to your first two questions are: U.S. and middle eastern nonsense really weren't the problems, and Bush's vacation had less to do with it than the general false sense of security that had arisen since the end of the Cold War. The problem with a withdrawal is two-fold. First, a total withdrawal will result in these already unstable countries slipping back into the hands of these extremists that our people have fought and died to eradicate. Secondly, sudden withdrawal appears to be a failure, and with our current appearance to the world, this would be a very bad PR move, like it or not. Great question!
3 :
Good question. You are correct also that 9/11 was a retaliation for american involvment in the middle east. American politicians conveniently never mention all the US meddling in various countires for many years before 9/11. Although war seems senseless and to start a war is a terrible crime, the US is guilty of that, particularly in Iraq. The point of the war though is continued expansion of american power and dominace throughout the world. Look at a map and see how many american bases there are all over. I have never been afraid of flying though. Your chances of dying there are less than driving a car. Go to London.

You love history, read the history of Islam to find your answer. Here is a small bit to whet your interest: In truth, the Qur’an not only calls Muslims to submit to Allah, it also commands them to subdue people of other religions until they are in a full state of submission to Islamic rule. This has inspired the aggressive history of Islam and its success in conquering other cultures. Lesser educated Muslims sometimes claim that the root word of Islam is “al-Salaam,” which is “peace” in Arabic. The Truth: An Arabic word only has one root. The root word for Islam is “al-Silm,” which means “submission” or “surrender.” There is no controversy about this among Islamic scholars. al-Silm (submission) does not mean the same thing as al-Salaam (peace), otherwise they would be the same word. Submission and peace can be very different concepts, even if a form of peace is often brought about through forcing others into submission. As the modern-day Islamic scholar, Ibrahim Sulaiman, puts it, "Jihad is not inhumane, despite its necessary violence and bloodshed, its ultimate desire is peace which is protected and enhanced by the rule of law." Qur'an (2:191-193) - "And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]...and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah." Qur'an (2:244) - "Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all things." Qur'an (2:216) - "Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not." Qur'an (3:56) - "As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help." Qur'an (3:151) - "Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority". Qur'an (4:74) - "Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward." Qur'an (4:76) - "Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah…" This is but a very small sample of what you will find...

What you are not getting in your equation is that in absence of Western influence they still proceed to blow themselves up and everyone else around them and we're in a state of globalization where "across the world" isn't so far anymore. America wasn't birthed on isolationism. Read OUR Declaration. We're not about to quit now and I'm definitely not going to take the excuse (which is the same excuse that terrorists use) that because America influenced other parts of the world that it gives terrorists a right to come here and blow us up and continue to blow everyone else up. The world is much smaller now. In an wink of an eye we can share information globally. I'm in Mississippi, where y'all at? It isn't the fact that we influenced any non-Western countries, because even in that absence it would then be an excuse that we are talking now on the internet about "them" and that we have the freedom to do it. It is the fact that we have freedom and power to live, feel, breathe and be not just non-Islamic, but their version of Islam, and they want it otherwise America fights wars based on FREEDOMS. We have more allies than Britain who are fighting with us from the West. Go Germany, go France and the rest of our ISAF troops who are doing a great job under tough circumstances! We have allies in the Muslim world who are fending off this terrorism as well in their home countries. The terrorists have already requested a nuclear suicide bomber, and while some of you guys are figuring it all out, still stuck on "appeasing terrorists" or thinking it is "perfectly okay to let them blow others up" because they cannot attack us on our home soil again because "they will learn to love us if we just stay out of it" other people have already counteracting it, defending FREEDOM, and wishing you guys would get off your patoosh and come help us all out. People tried to appease Hitler too. While the allied forces "checkmated" Hitler, we didn't even "check" all of his Islamofascist allies. Here's a Reagan speech on Communism. It still rings true today: Appeasement (A time for Choosing) Reagan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSezfNNLl-A&feature=related You and I have the courage to say to our enemies, "There is a price we will not pay." There is a point beyond which they must not advance. This is the meaning in the phrase of Barry Goldwater's "peace through strength." Winston Churchill said that "the destiny of man is not measured by material computation. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we are spirits--not animals." And he said, "There is something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty. " Ronald Reagan - A Time for Choosing (October 27, 1964) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pbp0hur9RU&feature=channel_page http://reagan2020.us/speeches/A_Time_for_Choosing.asp

Thanks, "The Real Lupines (not imposter)"! These new generations think Obama is the best orator (or speaker) they've ever seen or heard. If they watch your link, they will know why so many loved Reagan. Only the very far left liberal loons find fault with Reagan and pretend to this current generation that he was considered in the same light a Obama is now... a good talker without substance. No, Reagan was the Real Deal.

Is this a good platform for president?

Is this a good platform for president?
This is for a school project... 1. Limited government/less spending a. Abolish many government agencies which are either unconstitutional or inefficient (like the Dep. of Education and a few others) b. Privatize social security by putting it in the hands of credit unions, rather than large corporations, while retaining medicare in the hands of the state governments, rather than the federal government c. End useless foreign aid and make sure the only form of foreign aid is microloans, and that also to the poorest nations only 2. Decrease military spending and end the war a. End the war and bring the troops home, immediately, there's no use of us being in Iraq, and the only reason for us being in Afghanistan is to fight the 100 al-qaeda members which are still there... We are occupiers, and that only perpetuates the war b. Close useless military bases which help us defend our 'global empire'... We have over 700 military bases in over 100 different countries... We have about 30,000 soldiers in South Korea, Germany, and Japan, each, and all these countries are doing well enough to defend themselves 3. End foreign oil dependence and initiate new hemp based economy a. Systemically encourage ethanol usage instead of petroleum and legalize the growing of hemp, which has one of the best seed to oil ratios in the natural world... Hemp can replace corn as the main ethanol source which will lower food prices... b. Hemp fibers can produce 4 times as much paper per acre than trees, so we can add some more oxygen into the air by not cutting more trees 4. Clean up the environment a. Even though global warming is in question (see: climategate), we still need to clean up air and the water supply b. We need to ban fluoride, lithium, and other substances which are purposely put into our water supply "to keep us healthy"... These are like forced vaccines, since nearly every community's water supply contains these hazardous substances c. "Cash for Caulkers" program where people are encouraged to be efficient in their household 5. Lower taxes a. Since many useless programs will be cut, our need for taxes will become less b. We abolish the individual income tax and abolish the dividend tax c. We instate an intangible property tax so we can efficiently tax the rich (this tax will make stuff like stocks, bonds, patents, and other things like real property, so we can tax it) 6. Empower local government a. Since local government are so numerous, they are all harder to infiltrate by the money powered elite b. Since we stop many programs, we can stop the chokehold the federal government has over the people and local governments What do you think? Would you vote for someone with this platform? When I say infiltrate, I'm saying large multinational corporations. If the people of the community themselves infiltrate it, well, that's their job.

To fix an exchange rate in the Philippines, agree or disagree?

To fix an exchange rate in the Philippines, agree or disagree?
That the CB or central bank will fix permanently an exchange rate for our OFW sending money for their love ones in the Philippines as Phil.ps 45 to $1. 45 is already reasonable rate but others will ask for 50 as a fix rate. I myself is an OFW that is why the money being sent to the Philippines are already reduce to splinter once it reach the hands of the people receiving it not to mention that everything is rising in the Philippines on a monthly basis, the food, petroleum products, transportation expenses, electric bill, water bill etc... the money being sent by the people abroad as a sustenance to the daily living of the people in the Philippines. Our OFW as the "new hero of our generation" that made our economy afloat in the 1999 Asian financial crisis and this global recession period we are now having. It is about time we recognized their worth and sacrifices by giving them enough support from this government. A Filipino sending $300 x 45= Ph. 13,500 but the prevailing rate is only 32 to $1 that is only 9,600. Fixing an exchange rate will only make our OFW happy everytime they send their hard earn cash to the Philippines but helping the economy stay more afloat in an event another major financial crisis hit Southeast Asia. Not anymore the remittances of our OFW be subjected to the prevailing monetary exchange rate in the country. It will be excluded to that provision. A law will be enacted in aid for such legislation. This was often a debate in the past especially among OFW that why would the remittances of our million Filipinos instead of increasing its value going to the Philippines it was reduce to absolutely worthless. Only good for paying debts and buying food. This should not be the case here. If not for our million OFW we wouldn't be a country in the first place. But with the billions of funds derived from the remittances of our million OFW we still remain a poor country, why is that? We should by now look like South Korea or half the wealth of China. In the future more and more young people will go out of the Philippines to look greener pasture in other places and foreigners are the one occupying their spaces in the Philippines. How ironic isn't it? But this is the Philippines kahapon, ngayon at bukas. What do you think? thanks.

i agree. for one thing, as you put it, the filipinos are the one who made the country afloat in the asian crisis of 1999 and the global recession of today. but this one will require a law that will provide for such an enactment in your house of representative to make a bill into a law for this. i also often remember the famous quote in filipino "aanhin pa ang damo kung patay na ang kabayo". but i hope this one will materialize.

I pray that the exchange rate would be like that in our past, around US $ 1= Php 3.00
3 :
(you could have asked the question in two sentences max. the rest of your questions text is completely self-explanatory and unecessary) I would reconsider if i were you. the problem you are trying to solve is that you believe the ofw is/will get shortchanged if the usd to php exchange rate leans against the dollar too much. however, there are better, much safer or more macroscopically beneficial ways to do this than to essentially have the phil govt subsidize the difference between the real exachage rate should the dollar decline some more against the peso. what would happen if the condition got reversed? then you would get screwed and the phil govt got to pocket the difference! remember, there is no real way for any government(s), through imposition of economic policies, to have adequate control over future exchange rates, pegging the exchange rate for a specific purpose introduces a significant "beta" or unpredicatablity that could easily spin out of control and make a bad situation irrecoverably worse. my suggestion which would be much easier to implement and won't be looked at as 'voodoo economics' would be simpler: ofws could pay less income taxes. this effectively would raise their net income. sure it'll result in less revenues to the govt but i think its foolish for a government to believe that its main source of revenue comes from people forced to work ooverseas due to the governments inability to provide a better local job environment anyways. your means does not justify the ends.
